Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I work with an independent education consultant?

As a parent, you may have been planning and saving for your child's college education since their birth. I understand your desire to provide the best opportunities for your child while also being mindful of your hard-earned money. This is where an independent educational consultant can help. With my expertise, compassion for the whole child, and research skills, I can assist you in making informed decisions on how to best invest your resources to ensure your child's higher education is a success.

What benefits do I get from a consultant vs. my high school counselor?

As someone who works in the field of school counseling, I have a great deal of admiration for my colleagues and the unwavering commitment they exhibit towards our students. Despite working tirelessly for long hours, they continue to display remarkable compassion towards our youth. However, due to budget constraints, many districts are unable to hire an adequate number of counselors, which unfortunately impacts the quality of service provided to our students. The demands of the counseling profession have become so overwhelming that counselors are unable to devote sufficient time to assist students with college planning and preparation, while also addressing their mental health and overall well-being. That's why I am here to offer quality time and attention to your child, over a period of several years, with a dedicated focus on their individual needs, to help them achieve their college dreams.

Why am I qualified to advise your student?

  • Successful school counselor working with teens for over 15 years

  • First generation student

  • Athletic recruitment process

  • Attended a private, small liberal arts college

  • Attended large public universities, undergraduate and graduate degrees

  • Transfer student process

  • Expansive knowledge and skills to foster social and emotional growth in students and parents

  • I volunteer my time to support low-income, high-achieving students in the college process through a program called MatchLighters.

What type of family is best supported by your services?

I enjoy working with families who are both open-minded and appreciate the valuable growth opportunities that come with the college application process. It's also great when parents are eager to learn and encourage their children to develop the skills needed for success in college and beyond. Since uncertainty is a natural part of this process, those who are willing to embrace it will find my consulting approach most effective.

Could you let me know when you're meeting with students?

Student schedules are busy, so I understand that flexibility will be critical to our working relationship. Students will schedule appointments in advance through my website; depending on their school, work, and extracurricular schedule. Students will learn the critical skill of managing their time during our time together. My calendar is available online with evening and weekend options.

Where do you meet with students?

In-person meetings will be available at an agreed-upon location, depending on your location. Otherwise, sessions will be held via Zoom or Google Meet. A link will be provided at the time of booking.

Do you help students outside of the state of Colorado?

Yes, I support students wherever they live and sessions will be held virtually. I have found that working with students across the country is so great for both the student and myself to learn more about each other and the environments in which we reside to help expand our knowledge.

Will you help with the essay portion of the application?

I will guide students through brainstorming and developing the essay writing process, emphasizing the importance of finding their unique voice. Students will do all of the writing and receive feedback. I will encourage students to also seek support from an English teacher to finalize grammar and structure as needed. I discourage interference from any other outside helpers to prioritize the authenticity of the student’s work for college admissions.
